The High Priestess

By: Otaku Tarot

Hello folks, Otaku Tarot here again for the next card in the tarot, number two, the High Priestess. Without further ado let's get started.

The High Priestess is armed with only a tome in her hand showing knowledge at her disposal. She is seen balanced between the pillars of peace and severity signifying a mystical quietness about her. As a personality, those who are represented by this card are normally the smart, quiet, and reserved ones in the room. Those that have a bond with them will find that these people wish for their friends to succeed often have patients that makes others question their sanity. That was the positive traits, now for the negative. People with this personality can be shy, reclusive, cautious, and somewhat submissive, and some may even lack social skills. What the High Priestess teaches in the fool's journey is how to sense the energy around oneself and to better rely on ones intuition. The symbol on her forehead is the Egyptian deity of magic, Isis (not to be confused with the terrorist group) it indicates a more magical approach to knowledge. If she appears in your fortune it can mean multiple things. For her, right side up tells us to be patient and to trust our intuition to see the truth. For her inverted, may suggest vanity, an instability in the mind or body, selfishness, and/or deception.

Thank you all for reading. Next up is a personal favorite of mine number three The Empress. This has been Otaku Tarot signing out and remember, Nothing is set in stone.

Order On The Court

The Keokuk Chiefs boys basketball team has been in the rebuilding phase for a couple years now, but this year they look to take the next step as a program. Eight of the ten guys in the varsity rotation are returnees as the Chiefs now have experience at the varsity level, and they look to take advantage of that. Last year the Chiefs lost six games within five points, but this year they look to be able to win when in those situations and play HAVOC style basketball the whole game. The head coach for the Chiefs Zach Summers stated that "Along with experience our strengths will be our athleticism and being able to push the tempo and play fast for 32 minutes every game." The Chiefs look to utilize these strengths during the season to increase the amount of fans in the seats and the number in the wins collum

The Chiefs have four seniors on the varsity roster this year; Eddie Lee, Braylon Martinez, Nathan Koeber, and Tyjai Mueller. As this obviously being there last year, they really want to go out with a bang and refrain from becoming a first round postseason exit again. When asked about the upcoming season senior Braylon Martinez stated "I just want to see the team succeed this year. If that means sacrificing my personal stats so the team can win, then so be it." Braylon went on to say that it would mean a lot to him and all the other seniors if they could put together a postseason run, and set a new bar for future teams to beat.

The Chiefs started this years quest as they opened up their season on Tuesday, December third, when they hosted Monroe City in a Jv/V matchup. The Chiefs lost to the Panthers by a score of 55-61, but every season must start somewhere and the Chiefs will start at 0-1. Although a loss to start off the year never sounds good the Chiefs displayed many good things in Tuesdays loss. The halfcourt defense the Chiefs played was terrific, playing hard and grabbing rebounds after missed shots. After the loss, the boys were pretty tough on themselves knowing that they had a good chance to win and they just couldn't get the job done..

Although they got off to a rough start the Chiefs are currently 2-2 after losing to Burlington, but then rebounding and winning two in a row against the Central Lee Hawks and the Mount Pleasant Panthers. The boys are in high spirits knowing that they can truly win against any team that is on the court against them if they play 32 minutes of HAVOC basketball. The Chiefs next matchup is on Friday, December 20th in a conference matchup as they host the Fort Madison Bloodhounds.

Hoops I did It Again!

In the last five years with Michael Davis being the girls basketball coach, the girls have won seventy-eight games and lost thirty. Coach Davis has put in a lot of work helping these girls succeed in every game. Coach Davis manages playing time by how productive each player is during the game. After home games, the parents take the girls out for dinner celebrating the win or loss.

This year Coach Davis would like to see his team win a conference game and put themselves in a position to make a state appearance as they did in 2015-2016. "Basketball is one of the most structured sports other than football to play." Davis is also very active in college recruiting for his team.

Coach Davis feels that the most rewarding part about being a coach is watching kids do what they couldn't do in the beginning. A student leaving the program to visit a college and share their story is also rewarding. Currently the Chiefs have lost to Quincy Notre Dame and, Davenport Assumption. The Chiefs have defeated Iowa City Liberty, Burlington, Central Lee, Mount Pleasant, and Clark County. The lady Chiefs are off to a phenomenal start.

A good thing to do in the winter is to take up outdoor winter hobbies like skiing, ice skating, hockey and sledding. These will help get you through the slow winter months, just incase you have nothing to do when it is cold outside. Instead of hibernating, cure your cabin fever and ramp up the excitement by taking part in free hobbies and fun activities. These free hobbies and fun activities can include building snowmen, sculptures, while building the sculptures try to go beyond the regular snowmen and igloos.

Winter is also an ideal time to go bird watching, especially if you live in the warmer states. You can save money by going bird watching instead of buying bird feed and feeding the birds in your backyard. You can also get in your car and go to a park in your town to look at the lights.

Many towns have beautiful and festive Christmas light displays during the holidays. Keokuk has the City of Christmas light display in Rand Park during the holidays.

You can have a snowball fight with your friends and family. You can go sledding and you can either buy a sled or create one. Don't let the cold keep you inside this winter, get out and enjoy the snow.

This season the wrestlers plan to focus on their conditioning and fundamentals. Some of the wrestlers have stated that they also will be trying to keep an eye on their food intake as well as their weight during the season. On days when they have a meet, the wrestlers usually eat a small meal before wrestling. Sometimes the wrestlers may be advised to wear extra clothing to lose water weight in order to make their weight class. All of the coaches make sure that the wrestlers are well rested and that their muscles are calm before they wrestle. Coach Tommy Rose prepares for meets by relaxing and focusing on the meet. Coach Rose is excited about the season and about the opportunity to help the wrestlers have a successful season and make it to state.
